Artist's Comments

This is my first drawing of 2009.
It is sort of a gift for a friend, a thank you for helping me with an art idea by posing for me. So I will give this to her when I see her on Tuesday.

Her name is Ariel, and thats where she got her english name from, the movie "The Little Mermaid." So I thought as a gift give her a drawing of Ariel the little mermaid.

I have to say this is the first time I have drawn any Disney characters, and have to say a bit different from what I usually draw. Anime doesn't have much in common with Disney, especially in the face, which I found challenging...

It's a decent drawing but I know there are several problems with it, and it really annoys me... most I didnt realise until it was too late to fix, in particular the shape of the face, well the face in general...
But I had an interesting time colouring it. Used a variety of media to colour it, including markers, coloured pencils, chalk pastels, and a little watercolour. I'm happy with the colouring, and had many nice bright colours, a nice change from black and white drawings.

I will also probably write a little note on the back, such as a thank you and best of luck in the future sort of thing.

So what do you think for a first try at Disney characters.

Also I can't believe how old The Little Mermaid is, it was made in 1989! I thought it came out around 1995 when I was a kid.

EDIT: Background added, and watched the movie, its such a nice movie!

It looks nice and I like how you colored her and the clam, but maybe you should have drawn her with your own style.

Has the mivie been out that long, or are you talking about the orginal fairytale?
:iconasukaevaunit02:
thank you, I wasnt too sure what colour clams were so just guessed... thanks I liked the hair a lot.
Maybe should have tried my own style, especially since I found the disney style particularly the face quite hard... though I didnt think drawing it anime style would have worked... it is something to think about for future disney drawings...
The movie has been out that long, I didn't know about the fairytale... I watched the movie last night, its a really good movie, and I always though disney movies were bad... well maybe just the more recent ones. the moview was very inspiring, and looks really good for its age considering when it was made 20years ago

Okay!

Alright! The orginal story (the fairytale) is way better then the Disney one. You should read it. [link] Disney has gone downhill over the past few years, but most of their moveis are still good.

I agree with you the original is different to the disney, I liked both but for different reasons, the original was a little darker, but more meaningful, but I doubt Disney could have made that into a childrens movie, but I liked Diesney's version because it seemed really romantic and sweet...
thanks for the link to the original I enjoyed it!

Alright! Happy you like it. ^_^ I never thought the original story was dark. I was thinking it would make a good shoujo manga, but anyway I understand.
